How to Clean Velour Carpets and Upholstery
A velour carpet is a material similar to velvet that has a soft surface and mostly used for clothes and covering furniture and well as other items such as bedding. Because this material is increasingly delicate and expensive, it can be really tricky and difficult to wash or to remove stains from.
In this blog, we are going to show you how to clean velour carpet and upholstery!
Let’s start!
1. Check the Instructions on Your Upholstery & Carpet
Most pieces of furniture or upholstery have a cleaning code on the tags that provides recommendation and the safest way to clean velour carpets.
2. Vacuum Thoroughly
If you decide you want to clean the velour carpet and upholstery, you should always vacuum before you begin any efforts to wash it. To puff up the carpet and prepare it for cleaning, make sure you use the vacuums brush attachment and run it along the nap mode.
3. Spot Treat
A great remedy to remove stains from your velour carpet and upholstery is to apply a mixture/solution of lemon juice and baking soda.
To do this, by mixing two tablespoons of baking soda in a bowl that contains lemon juice. Stir this solution until you form a foam. It is this foam that you will use to clean the item. If you have larger objects, use a larger bowl or tub and more mixture.
Remember: Ensure you test the mixture, this can let you know if the mixture used is safe and won’t damage your upholstery and velour carpet. Do this under the furniture or at a place which is not visible and use a dabbing method to apply the mixture.
4. Gently Wipe Away Stains
- Make sure you do not rub the solution/mixture into the fabric, which may cause the stains to go deeper into the fibres of your carpet or fabric of your velour upholstery. Also, check to see if the stain is gone in between wipes and if not, continue to dab until you see the stain has completely disappeared.
- Also, ensure you remove any excess moisture or residue from your velour carpet and upholstery by dabbing with a cloth and squeeze it so that it doesn’t soak your velour carpet and upholstery and ruin the texture.
5. Dry Rigorously
Give your carpet and upholstery a few hours or days to completely let it dry before allowing other individuals in the house to use it. This will ensure that the velour material stays lustrous, looking good and exposed to any staining agents during the process.
Final Thoughts
Some people might say that having a clean carpet and upholstery is highly overrated, but we’d like to disagree. A clean velour carpet is silky, lustrous and elegant, adding the needed oomph to your home. However, we understand that it can be difficult to keep it looking that way, especially if you have kids or pets making a mess. So the next time you notice a spill or stain on your velour carpet, clean it immediately using the methods shared above.
And if all else fails, hire a professional carpet cleaning like Wir Reinigen Deinen Teppich in Munich that knows the ins and outs of carpet cleaning.
